Project Overview
This residential project in California showcases UBC’s precision-driven approach to Light Gauge Steel Framing (LGSF)/Cold formed Steel design and detailing. Spread across area of 2707.9 sq. ft., the single-storey building in California, USA features a mono sloped roof, combining structural efficiency with contemporary architectural aesthetics. The project exemplifies how intelligent engineering and software integration can streamline design, fabrication, and installation processes. Building information modelling services from LOD 100 to LOD 500 in California, USA for both light gauge steel and timber framed structures.
Scope of Work
UBC provided comprehensive engineering and detailing services for this project, ensuring constructability and fabrication precision.
The detailed scope included:
- Truss Engineering
- 3D Modeling
- Detailing
- CNC Production Files
Key Highlights
- Integrated Gutter System
An in-built gutter system was innovatively designed within the truss layout to ensure efficient rainwater management without compromising roof integrity or aesthetics.
- Enhanced Structural Stability
Horizontal bracing was strategically provided at quarter points across the truss span, delivering improved rigidity and resistance against lateral forces.
- Optimized for Fabrication and Assembly
The design was optimized to ensure minimal on-site adjustments, allowing for faster assembly and reduced labour time during installation.
Software Used
In this project, Revit MWF (Structsoft) played a crucial role in simplifying truss engineering, modeling, and detailing for the 3,094 sq. ft. single-storey residential building. The software’s intelligent automation tools enabled quick generation of accurate truss layouts from the multi-sloped roof geometry. By leveraging Revit’s analytical model, UBC seamlessly coordinated structural loads, ensuring precise reinforcement for long-span trusses without intermediate supports. The built-in clash detection and real-time model coordination within Revit ensured that every truss aligned perfectly with walls and roof structures, eliminating design conflicts and improving overall constructability.
Additionally, Revit MWF Structsoft made it easier to detail and prepare the trusses for fabrication and transportation. Since the long trusses were split into two halves, the software facilitated accurate truss-to-truss connection detailing, maintaining structural integrity during assembly on-site. MWF’s integration with the FrameCAD system allowed direct CNC file generation, streamlining the fabrication process and minimizing manual intervention. This BIM-driven workflow enhanced design precision, reduced turnaround time, and ensured smooth coordination from engineering through production, reinforcing UBC’s commitment to delivering efficient and constructible LGSF solutions
Machine Used
Manufacturing was powered by the FrameCAD System, known for its accuracy, speed, and compatibility with MWF outputs. The integration between design software and FrameCAD machinery ensured error-free production and high-quality framing components.
Conclusion:
UBC successfully delivered residential project with precision and efficiency, transforming a potentially complex task into a streamlined process. Despite challenges such as integrating an in-built gutter system within the truss layout and incorporating horizontal bracing for added stability, the team delivered flawless results through advanced modeling, detailing, and CNC production. Using Revit MWF Structsoft and FrameCAD, UBC simplified what could have been a time-intensive and intricate project, ensuring accurate fabrication, faster assembly, and superior build quality. The project’s successful completion reinforces UBC’s commitment to delivering innovative, constructible, and high-performance LGSF solutions with unmatched ease and excellence.
